Central Sector Scholarship Scheme for College and University Students. MERIT SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME: National Merit Scholarship Scheme was introduced by Department of Education. It was available to brilliant but poor students from class XI to Post-Graduation level. In addition, a Scheme of Scholarship at the Secondary stage for talented children from rural areas was also introduced by Department of Education. It was available to talented but poor students from rural areas from class VI to class XII. These two Schemes were merged and a single Scheme, namely, the 'National Merit Scholarship Scheme' was established by Department of Education for implementation from 2005-06.

This was available to meritorious students from class IX to Post-Graduation level. However, since funds were not provided by the Planning Commission for the year 2007-08, the Scheme has been discontinued w.e.f. 01.04.2007. School Education has come under a new Department, namely, Department of School Education & Literacy w.e.f. the year 2007-08. The Department of School Education and Literacy has introduced a new Scheme 'National Means-Cum- Merit Scholarship Scheme'. This Scheme will cover students from class IX to XII. The Department of Higher Education has introduced a new scheme for meritorious students from low income families going to colleges/universities for implementation during the XI Five Year Plan period with an approved outlay of Rs. 1000 Crore. This is a Central Sector Scheme titled "Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students".



CBSE calls for application for Renewal of CSSS scholarships from 2012 to 2014: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released a notification regarding the Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students (CSSS). Interested students can renew their applications on the official website of the Board (cbse.nic.in). Scholarships can be renewed for the years including 2012, 2013 and 2014.

The last date to apply for the same online is on December 15, 2017
Hard copies of the application forms must also be submitted by December 31, 2017.

The scholarship amont is Rs 1,000 per month for three years for graduation and Rs 2,000 per month for two years for post graduate courses. “Detailed eligibility conditions for online renewal application for Scholarship are available in cbse.nic.in,” the Board said in the notification.

Eligibility:
1. Candidates should have passed class 12 board exams in 2012, 2013, 2014.
2. Candidates should not be availing other scholarships.
3. Candidates should have passed with at least 60 per cent in the course they are pursuing.
4. Candidates should have at least 75 per cent attendance and good discipline.

Central Sector Scholarship Scheme:
This Scheme object is to provide financial assistance to meritorious students from low income families to meet a part of their day-to-day expenses while pursuing higher studies. The Central Board of Secondary Education, HQ Delhi invites 'Online applications' from the students who have passed Class X & XII Examination 2014 for the award of under Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students.

Eligibility:
Students who are above 80th percentile of successful candidates in the relevant stream for a particular Board of Examination, in class XII of 10+2 pattern or equivalent and not belonging to the creamy layer as defined by the Department of Personnel and Training in their Notification No. 36012/22/93-Estt.(Res), dated 9th March, 2004 (Annexure-V) and as may be further modified from time to time, pursuing regular courses (not correspondence or distance mode) from recognized educational institutions and not availing of any other scholarship scheme, would be eligible for consideration this Scheme. This is application to all categories of students both ‘General’ and ‘Reserved’.


Scholarships:
A. Course: Graduation
Amount: Rs.1000/- per month for three years
Amount to be Disbursed: To be disbursed lump sum Amount of Rs.10,000/- at the end of academic year.

B. Course: Post Graduation (Other than that of the professional courses)
Amount: Rs 2000/- per month for two years after Graduation.
Amount to be Disbursed: To be disbursed lump sum Amount of Rs.20,000/- at the end of academic year.For 4th and 5th year of Professional Courses @ Rs 2000/- per month

Mode of Disbursal of Scholarship:
  • Scholarship amount shall be sent to the selected candidate’s Bank Account only by ECS (Electronic Clearing System) mode.
  • Applicants are requested to open Bank Account in his/her name only in a branch of any Scheduled Nationalised/ commercial Bank which has ECS facility.Applicants are advised to provide their Bank Account number, Bank Name and detail address of the Bank and the correct RTGS/NEFT branch code (11 digit alpha numeric code) of the Bank.
  • No request for sending the amount of scholarship by Draft or in account of parents or joint account will be entertained.


How to Apply:
Through Online mode. Printout of Online application form bearing Registration No. and other documents be sent to Assistant Secretary (Scholarship), 7th Floor, CBSE, Shiksha Kendra, 2, Community Centre, Preet Vihar, Delhi by Speed Post only.
