The attention of all the District Educational Officers in the state is invited to the reference cited in which the Ministry of HRD, GOI, has decided to conduct a weeklong event of Ganit Saptah throughout the country coinciding with the birth anniversary of the legendary Mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan i.e 22nd December, 2016.

In the said letter the NCERT has communicated the guidelines, objective of the programme as well as day wise details of activities to be conducted for the celebration of Ganith Saptah and suggested the States to consider some more activities if they so desire. Further they requested the respective States to undertake activities during "Ganit Saptah" as per the guidelines. Keeping in view of this, the DEOs are requested to communicate the guidelines given by the NCERT to all the schools with instructions to conduct the Ganith Saptah from 19-23rd December, 2016 in the schools of their respective districts and at various levels i.e mandal level and at district level.

The Principals of IASEs, DIETs, CTEs and teacher Education colleges in the state are also instructed to observe the said week and conduct the activities in their respective institutions. Further the DEOs, the Principals of IASEs, CTls, DIETs and Teacher Education Colleges are requested to send the detailed report to the Director, SCERT on the conduct of the 'Ganit Saptah" in their respective districts and in the institutions on or before 30th December, 2016. The report will be consolidated at the State level and it will be sent to the MHRD, New Delhi.

The National Council of Education and training (NCERT) has always been making efforts to generate interest in Mathematics among school children of different stages Concern about learning of mathematics has been voiced at various fora. The National Policy of Education has also provided vision for the same and curricular framework developed by NCERT from time to time provides detailed guidelines for teaching & learning of mathematics in schools. One of the ways is interaction of students not only with their teacher but also among themselves as well as the community. It is extremely crucial in teaching learning process of all subjects including Mathematics. There is a need to provide such a platform for students, teachers and the community.

This issue was discussed in detail in one of the review meetings by Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India and it was decided that a weeklong event of GANIT SAPTAH may be celebrated throughout the country. The weeklong event may preferably be celebrated around 22nd December every year which is the birth anniversary of the legendary Mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. According NCERT has finalized the guidelines for the celebration of Ganit Saptah. Details of guidelines are suggestive and State may consider to·add few more activities if they. so desire. All schools may kindly be instructed to undertake activities during "Ganit Saptah' as per the guidelines.
