National Testing Agency, NTA would be conducting the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, NEET 2020 only once a year next year. The Human Resources Development Ministry has decided against its previous decision to conduct NEET 2020 twice a year in the online mode under NTA. The decision came in after Health Ministry requested MHRD to reconsider the proposal. The examination would now be conducted in the same pattern as this year, in pen and paper mode on May 3, 2020 by NTA.

MHRD has now released a new schedule and the examination for NEET 2020 would now be conducted on May 3, 2020. As for the paper pattern, the reports confirm that the offline pen and paper mode would be available to students. As to the possibility of conducting NEET 2020 in online mode as well, there is no further reports. However, it is confirmed that NEET 2020 would be conducted once next year and would also be available in pen and paper mode.

Also, JEE Mains will happen twice in a year now, in the months of January and April. Aspirants may appear for one or both as per their choice. University Grants Commission’s NET examination, scheduled to be conducted by CBSE for this year on July 8, will now be held in December as NTA UGC NET December Exam 2020.

NEET is a national level medical entrance examination and its scores have been used for admission in medical and allied courses across the country. Students can appear for NEET once a year and the best score will be considered for admission. The National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET), for admission into medical and dental courses, will be held in May. At present, both these tests are held only once a year.

National Eligibility cum Entrance Test NEET UG Exam, which was taken in offline mode, will go pen and paper mode, under NTA. The results will be able to be processed faster and more efficiently. Major examination reform, NTA, is now operational. It will be conducting the NEET, JEE mains, NET, CMAT and GMAT examinations effective this year.

Announcing the schedule of National Testing Agency, Javadekar stated that the new arrangement made by the MHRD will garner a lot of benefit to the students of the country. The candidates who would appear for these tests will be able to use the best score from the multiple attempts during the counselling process. It will also curb paper leaks and it will all be computerised. Javadekar also informed that neither the syllabus nor format of these examinations will be changed, not even the nature and the kind of questions. Only the method of taking the examination will change. It will all computer-based and conducted in online mode.

NTA NEET UG 2020: A month after it announced that the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) will be conducted online and twice a year from 2020, the government on Tuesday rolled back the decision. The exam will now be held in the pen-and-paper mode and not online. Earlier, the Indian Express had reported that the HRD Ministry’s keenness to put off any changes in the NEET’s conduct is influenced by the Health Ministry, which fears an online (read computer-based) test would put students from rural and economically poor families at a disadvantage. The registration process for NEET 2020 will begin from 2nd to 31st December 2019 and the exam will be held on May 3. However, the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) will be held twice a year.

According to the examination calendar released by him, JEE (Mains) would be held in January and April, NEET was supposed to be conducted in February and May. National Eligibility Test or NET would be conducted in December. The Health Ministry, The Indian Express has learnt, sent a letter to the HRD Ministry within three days stating that the public announcement on the NEET was made “without formal consultation” with them. In its letter, the Health Ministry listed eight problems that it anticipated because of Javadekar’s announcement. Apart from concerns that a test in online mode would put poor and rural students at a disadvantage, the Health Ministry had a problem with the examination calendar announced for the NEET.

Standard of the exams:
Under NTA, these exams will be more secure and at par with international norms, claimed the minister. There will be no issues of leakage and it would be more student-friendly, open, scientific and a leak-proof system.

NTA is expected to bring in a qualitative difference in the examination process by its focus on research and scientific test design using services of Experts, Researchers, Statisticians, Psychometricians, Test Item Writers and Education Specialists.

The item writers would be trained to ensure that the quality of questions is as per the test design. The experts, statisticians and item writers/subject matter experts are already identified for being inducted into NTA. The new system will be student-friendly, fair, transparent and flexible.

The NTA would benefit the students and they would have the option of going to computer centres from August-end to practise for the exams. The tests would be computer-based. The exams would be held over a span of four-five days and students would have the option of choosing the dates, the minister said.

The syllabus, question formats, language and fees for the NEET, JEE Main and NET exams would not be changed. The time table of the exams to be conducted by NTA would be uploaded on the ministry's website.
